No Toes

Shoes!  Glorious shoes.  It has come to my attention that in beginning to think about sewing dresses, we also need to be thinking about shoes.  My mother brought this up with a couple of my bridesmaids, so she does not cut any fabric too short.  Immediately, the question was tossed my way: What kind of shoes are we wearing?!  The following is a description of my vision although it still remains pretty vague.

I would prefer black shoes.  I do not have a height requirement of any kind.  If one is worried about being in heels all day, please wear flats.  If one is vertically challenged and feels the need for a lift, hit the heels.  My only great concern is the amount of toe showing.  I'd prefer a closed toe shoe, however, I would never say no to a peep toe.  My reasoning is this:  I do not want to have to dictate what color toe nail polish everyone must wear, that's just silly.  As this is also a semi formal event, I really don't want to see more foot than shoe.  Finally, let's face it, none of us are extremely tan.  A stark white foot underneath a beautiful, black bridesmaid dress will be rather distracting.

I think that exhausts all kinds of shoe/foot logic.  I think my mom and I will have fabric sent out by October... I think.  I know that I'm anxious for everything to get rolling.

  1. I think these are fair requests. Mumkin I can wear the shoes I wore for Betsy's wedding? Mom should plan for 4" height addition in that case...

  2. Hey Abbs, that sounds cool to me. I'm guessing I shouldn't plan on you wearing those all evening? ;) I think I can arrange something to combat tired feet after the dinner has begun.

  3. That would probably be good. I do have a pair of silver glitter Toms, but I could see that being more appropriate for you. (They're at home so those shoes could literally be for you.) :)

  4. I have a pair of closed-toe 2 inch black heels that I will probably wear! But I'm not promising that my feet will make it all through the reception in them, but I'll try (and by 'try' I mean I'll bring an extra pair of shoes!) :)

My mom and I are making my dress, so we will have to remember to account for the extra length. Can't wait to see the fabric!

    1. Molly, I now have both the fabric and the lining, so will try to get it shipped your way soon. Do you want it sent to Iowa City, or to Vinton? I want to send it on a roll, so it does not get a crease up the middle. Message or email me where it should go!

  5. I'm SO sorry I've been absent from this blog for a while! Moving, new work situation, and playing Thanksgiving hostess took more of my mental capacity than I expected and I've been shirking duties since late July/early August. :( Sorry, all!

I have a darling pair of black patent leather heels that fade to clear (the heel, that is)--pretty amazing, though I think I'd fall over in them if we are standing for the ceremony. Amer, are these formal enough: http://www.gravitypope.com/shoes/product/16369-camper-21079-025-peu-nara Those are my favorite black heels right now. FYI, I wholly recommend Camper as a shoe company. VERY stylish, VERY comfortable!

  6. ALSO, I have some TOMS Black Glitters: http://www.toms.com/womens/glitters/black-glitters-shoes

I've seen whole wedding parties do TOMS before, and it is a pretty cool look for pictures(besides the fact that a bunch of kids in need get shoes because someone got married, which is seriously awesome).
